The first time you see your baby in the NICU can be incredibly intimidating and frightening. I know even with my years of NICU experience, when I first saw my son lying there with an endotracheal tube in place, a UAC line, a phototherapy light, eye shields and so much more, I was taken aback. There really is no preparation for NICU parents – after all, this is your child!
If you are a visual person like me, even if someone is explaining something to me, it does not fully make sense until I physically see it or a drawing similar to it. So we hired an amazing artist to do just that for you! Click on the link to get the free beautiful pdf with labels of common NICU equipment. Whether it is a wire or tube directly attached to your baby, or a piece of equipment near your infant, our drawing clears up any confusion you may have had. In the drawing, each piece of equipment is appropriately positioned and labeled so you develop a better grasp of the common NICU equipment that may be used on your infant in the NICU.
We also developed a podcast episode, NICU Equipment from Head to Toe – What You Need to Know, that walks you through the image and explains it in much more detail. We touch on every piece of equipment commonly used in the NICU as well as what their purpose is, what pieces of equipment they are hooked up to, and how it relates to your baby’s plan of care in the NICU.
