What makes our journal different

The only NICU journal written by a NICU Mama of a 23 weeker, who is also an experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Why we created our journal

Our NICU Roadmap was created bearing in mind all of the important tools that I, as a NICU parent and a NNP felt were missing in a NICU journal. The vision for the journal stemmed from the lack of a comprehensive journal available while our son was in the NICU for 91 days. I personally found that although I knew the questions to ask, there was not an appropriate place to document all of the information I wanted to remember including details about my pregnancy, our son’s delivery, his birth stats, all of his achievements, but more specifically, his daily labs, respiratory support, results from his head ultrasounds, eye exams, daily feedings, and the plan of care each day.

Our goal at Empowering NICU Parents is to empower, educate, and support NICU parents. We strongly believe in parents being actively involved in their NICU baby’s cares and in the daily plan of care alongside with the NICU care team. To ensure that you as a NICU parent are properly equipped to be an active member of your baby’s care team, we equip you with knowledge so you know the questions to ask and can confidently be involved in your baby’s daily plan of care.

I also strongly believe that journaling will help as you venture down this NICU journey, Our NICU Roadmap includes an area to journal each day, plus a separate full journal section in the back to help you document and process all of your feelings and emotions. I promise, you will look back on this experience and continue to be amazed by your little one and all of their achievements, it will be such a great keepsake for you and your baby!
